Valve Gives The Pinball Arcade The Greenlight!!!...Release On Steam Upcoming!

On September 13, 2012, FarSight Studios launched their project on Steam Greenlight with the hope that the pinball community would pull together and help establish a solid base of support for The Pinball Arcade and convince Valve to allow them to publish one of the greatest pinball simulators ever on Steam...and seven months later, with support as strong as ever, Valve gives The Pinball Arcade the greenlight!

Thanks to the overwhelming support of every pinball enthusiast that voted for The Pinball Arcade, real pinball is finally coming to the PC...and FarSight Studios thanks everyone for their continued support of FarSight's mission to create the greatest pinball video game ever made!

As far as when The Pinball Arcade will be available on Steam and how many tables will be available for purchase on day one, FarSight has to implement Steam's SDKs into The Pinball Arcade and redo the main menu to match the mobile and PS3 style before they can release on Steam. Also, they need to tune the lighting on each table specifically for the PC which means there's a chance not all tables will be available for purchase on launch, but the PC version should be caught up with tables releases shortly thereafter.

Terminator 2 : Judgment Day Kickstarter Upcoming!!!

    KICKSTARTER UPCOMING!

FarSight was amazed and humbled by the tremendous outpouring of support both The Twilight Zone and Star Trek : The Next Generation camgaigns received from everyone. The entire team at FarSight Studios thanks everyone for backing both of their previous Kickstarter campaigns and hope for the same support with their upcoming Terminator 2 : Judgment Day Kickstarter campaign.

UPDATE : Due to the length of the delays on the Xbox 360, FarSight is offering The Twilight Zone and/or Star Trek : The Next Generation Kickstarter backers the opportunity to switch platforms to any other platform they support. If the base game is needed to play (for example the PS3), FarSight will be happy to provide a means to getting the base game free of charge. Please contact FarSight at PinballArcadeStarTrekCodes@gmail.com if you'd like to switch platforms.

Kindle Fire : Released on 05/18/12 AVAILABLE NOW!

OUYA : Released on 03/28/13 AVAILABLE NOW! (OUYA Kickstarter backers only) NOTE : The OUYA was recently shipped to OUYA Kickstarter backers on March 28th and The Pinball Arcade is currently available for purchase on the OUYA Marketplace for those who have received their OUYA consoles. FarSight will make an official announcement on the release of The Pinball Arcade shortly before the OUYA’s official launch on June 25, 2013.

PC : Valve Greenlit The Pinball Arcade on April 17, 2013 with a release of the PC version on Steam upcoming. The PC version uses Directx 9.0c, which is also used on the Xbox 360 version, so the rendering engines are similar. They both use the same tech for the ball reflections (PS3 is done differently because of hardware differences). The HDR/Bloom is different from the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions due to the nature of their hardware. The PC version also uses much less compression on the textures with some of them completely uncompressed, while both the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions use DXT compression on the textures. The lighting model is the same as on the Xbox 360 version, but FarSight would like to add some more advanced lighting tech for higher end GPUs. Anti Aliasing on the PC version will be at a much higher level...up to 16X, whereas the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions are 2X. Portrait mode is not working just yet, but FarSight plans to setup portrait screens while they're redoing the main menu. UPDATE : FarSight is currently working hard to make sure the PC beta is as bug-free as possible and are shooting for a mid-late June release for the beta.

PS3 : Released on 04/10/12 (NA) 07/11/12 (EU) AVAILABLE NOW!

PS4 : Bobby King announced that The Pinball Arcade is on its way to the PS4 and will feature rendering tech for per pixel ray casting, area lights/shadows, point lights, screen space ambient occlusion (which is a fancy way to say even more shadows) and updated physics and gameplay on all of the DLC tables they release. UPDATE : FarSight will be included a part of Sony’s booth at E3 this year and they will be showing an enhanced version of Star Trek : The Next Generation running on the PS4 with next gen real-time lighting and reflections.

PS Vita : Released on 04/10/12 (NA) 07/11/12 (EU) AVAILABLE NOW!

Wii U : FarSight had delayed the Wii U version to implement the ability to purchase Season Table Packs and will be submitting the build to NOA and NOE for approval shortly.

Windows 8 : FarSight will be submitting The Pinball Arcade for Windows 8 very soon. They plan to release on all Windows 8 devices through it's marketplace.

Xbox 360 : Released on 04/04/12 AVAILABLE NOW! Add-On Content UPDATE : FarSight continues to work with the bankruptcy court and Microsoft to determine the best course of action for The Pinball Arcade and their customers. They are getting closer to a solution and will be offering discount packs for all of the great tables they’ve released over the past several months.

Features, Additions And Improvements Coming In The Near Future

2-Stage Flipper Settings : FarSight is looking to add an option to toggle the 2-stage flipper feature on/off and improving its functionality in the near future.

Backglass Animation : FarSight hopes to carry over their backglass tech, featured on Cirqus Voltaire and Scared Stiff, to the rest of the tables in the near future.

Challenge Mode : Challenge Mode is still in the works for all platforms and devices and will be included in an upcoming update.

Day/Night Mode Lighting : FarSight is planning to add day and night mode lighting in the future. Currently on mobile, this would require twice the textures for each table and FarSight doesn't have the bandwidth in their art staff to do this for every table at the moment. Their goal is to support real-time lighting on all platforms before they go back and re-visit this. FarSight envisions a slider on the Table Menu that allows you to adjust the table lighting to your preference.

Device Controller Support : FarSight may look into controller support for Android and other devices in the future.

Dot Matrix Display (DMD) Options : FarSight is looking into adding options to change the filter, size, position and possibly the brightness of the DMD in the future.

Flipper Physics : The flipper physics update will be coming, but not soon. It will probably not start to be phased in until the September update at the earliest. Plus, FarSight probably won't make new flipper physics active on all tables all at once. Each table will have to be tuned and tested before any physics are overhauled.

GI Lighting : FarSight is looking to implement GI Lighting on the console and Mac versions in the near future.

Online Challenges : FarSight is looking to add the ability to send out challenges when you beat a friend's high score on a table in the near future.

Online Multiplayer : FarSight plans to add online multiplayer in an update soon.

Pinball Cabinet Support : FarSight stated that they definitely plan to implement pinball cabinet support in the future.

Pinball Hall of Fame Table Re-Releases : FarSight plans on releasing all, except a few, of the tables featured on both Pinball Hall of Fame Collections with updated graphics, physics and "true" ROM emulation (where applicable). All tables will be rebuilt from the ground up and feature the new, more sophisticated, physics framework and won't be direct ports from the PHOF Collections.

Posting Offline High Scores To The Online Leaderboards : FarSight is looking to add the ability to post offline high scores to the online leaderboards the next time you go online in the near future.

PS Vita Cross-Controller Support For PS3 : FarSight is currently looking into the possibility of using the PS Vita as a cross-controller for The Pinball Arcade on the PS3.

ROM Emulation For Solid State Tables : FarSight has made great strides with ROM emulation which now includes support for Gottlieb and older solid state MPUs. Black Knight will be the first of the five released scripted solid state tables to be updated to full ROM emulation within the next couple of months.

Saving Table Preferences : FarSight has built table preferences into the save file, so table preferences (camera type, camera angle, plunger cam, etc.) should be saved with all future updates. Also, FarSight is looking to have the HUD on/off preference saved in a future update.

Stereoscopic 3D Support For PS3 : The stereoscopic 3D functionality for the PS3 will be included in an update after FarSight has had a chance to perfect and balance it. What they displayed at the shows was still in development and wasn't 100% working on some tables.

UI Improvements : FarSight now has someone working full-time on the UI and are looking to improve the overall look of the UI while maintaining its current functionality.

User Adjustable Camera Settings : This feature will include the ability for the user to set the zoom and angle of each table to their preference and is coming late 2013.

Voice-Over Tutorials : FarSight is looking at implementing some software compression that may allow them to add voice-over to the tutorials in the future.

This thread will be updated continuously with the latest news and information confirmed by FarSight Studios and contains absolutely NO RUMORS.

Much sadness on the PS3 release date. Oh well, patience is a virtue. (it has been so far) I am currently #s 4 & 19 on the PS3 Medieval Madness leaderboard and am very anxious to put a hurt on the new ones. I buy very few games but, this one is #1 on my game radar.

    Thanks Pin Wiz!

Another good tidbit of news for iPad owners:

"We will be showing off the PS3, Vita, 360, and new iPad versions in Texas and updating release dates as accurately as we can."

Jeff, thanks for keeping this thread up to date since I can't be on the forum 24/7, even though it looks like I already am.

The Android dlc will be launched at the same time (if not before) the ios version. (In fact they are showing off Bride and Madness at the Texas show now on an Android transformer Prime!)

Thanks for the update Ryan...was hoping to have the new tables to keep me busy until the TPA is released on Xbox LIVE.

I was hoping for an xbla release date too, but nothing as of this post. Hopefully we'll hear something from FarSight by tomorrow.

For those who are referencing Xbox LIVE as having a March 28th release date for The Pinball Arcade, I wouldn't read too much into it since they still list Crave Games as the publisher which is false. That information is obviously old and hasn't been updated since it was posted.

The odd thing is that it didn't pop up until after it was released on iOS, if I remember correctly. Telling by posts on facebook, it seems Farsight was trying to shoot for the date, though they haven't confirmed it either.

but Farsight never denied the information and even said the date was likely at one point. I rather just wait to hear from Farsight before jumping the gun.

Here's their latest comment on the 360 release date:

"We're still scheduled for March 28th on 360, but it's up to Microsoft. They rejected the last build because the game didn't work if a guitar controller was plugged in. Seriously! We'll let you know when we hear for sure. It's as frustrating for us as it is for you!"

Thanks for this Jeff...I must have just missed it. By the way, who in their right mind would want to play a pinball game with a guitar? Microsoft, get real...that issue has nothing to do with the game and you know it. Approval within the next 24-48 hrs. is crucial in getting TPA released on March 28th...stay tuned!

I know with the SNES super scope, if you left the adapter for it in when playing non super scope games, it actually caused malfunctions in some games. Stuff like starting on the wrong stage in Super Star Wars. I don't think the issue is playing the game with the guitar, but more with not being able to use the standard controller while the guitar is plugged in. Some like to leave controllers plugged in when not playing a game, so I could see it being an issue.

Yea, I see your point, but an issue like this could be easily fixed with an update shortly after release.

Or with a small piece of text on the title screen telling you to unplug your guitar controller or the game won't work!

I hope that the iPad3 version looks close to the 360 version, the resolution of the playfield on the current iOS release is quiet terrible on the iPad3's retina display

Russell posted some pictures of the iPad 3 version Friday on Facebook, so you'd have to dig down a bit to find them.

That's strange. They still work fine for me. Maybe you have to be friends with Russell to see them? I'll reupload them to imageshack or something.
